She keeps turing her thermostat down at night and when I arrive in the morning the house is so cold. My mom says that house is so cold and to heat it up she is heating up pots of water on the stove and hanging out in the kitchen.

We call this a therapeutic fib and it is absolutely necessary when helping a person with dementia. Some people feel guilty about lying but you are actually helping them. With this disease, common sense and reality no longer work and we need to become creative.
