Does Mom Need All Those Medications?

purple pills non-descript

My mother takes several medications every day for different health issues. In addition, she is now prescribed meds for her dementia. My brother does not believe in taking pills and tells me regularly that I should not give my Mom her medications for dementia.

Is that safe to do? What can I expect if she doesn’t take them?

  1. Fred, the medication question is a tricky one when it comes to dementia. Certain medications such as Anticholinergic medications may have a negative effect and current dementia medications may or may not be effective. HOWEVER, you should always speak to your health care professional before making any medication changes. If you are unsure if your mother is on the right medication, you can get a second opinion, preferably from a physician who specializes in dementia.
