  • My mom is not brushing her teeth

    This is new and I am not sure if this will be ongoing, but my mom is having dental issues. She is not brushing her teeth. What happened is that I would ask her if she had brushed them and she would reply, “of course I brushed my teeth, I don’t need you telling me what to do.” After a series of dental pain complaints I began touching her toothbrush after I asked her. The tooth brush is dry! I am not sure what to do. She doesn’t want me to tell her what to do, and wants to be in charge, but she is not taking care of herself.

    I’m not usually familiar with working with people who suffers from dementia. But what I can say is that I agree with Cmandes2018. I believe that if you create a checklist for your mother or any patient who suffers from dementia with steps of how to brush their teeth and keep it posted where both you and the residents can see it. It can be a helpful tool to not only you but for the residents too.
