For as long as I can remember, my father would yell and scream at my mother when he was upset. Now that he has dementia, he still yells sometimes, but afterward, he starts to cry and apologizes to my mother. My mother doesn’t seem to accept his apologies and I don’t understand why. It breaks my heart to see my mother act so coldly towards my father when he’s crying. What can I do to help them?

Remember that this is such a hard disease to understand. People still look the same and at times may act like they are OK, which makes it so hard for the care partner to realize that they actually have a disease that is killing their brain. You may want to have your mom watch the Foundation series as this show pics of what the brain actually looks like when damaged.
